This biography from the Archives of AskART:
John Jennings was born in Idaho in 1948.  At age 2, he moved with his family back to Oregon, where he was raised.  One of the first underwater marine painters, John Jennings depicts the multi-dimensional life of the ocean.

Since 1990, the mural at Cannery Row in Monterey California ----“Welcome Home”---John Jennings has served as an icon for marine conservation for an audience of perhaps 2 to 4 million people annually, in the decade since painting the Cannery Row Mural.

On February 18, 2004, John Jennings was appointed for a two-year term as the first Cultural Ambassador for the Province of the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.  He has just been re-appointed for a second four year term in April of 2006.  Recently, he has received an artist in Residency appointment for the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, which he will fulfill for part of the year 2008-2009.

John Jennings’ detail-rich marine landscapes have been exhibited at the Gutenberg Expositions in Long Beach, California, and at many fine art venues throughout the United States and Europe.
