Émile Charles Labbé was born in 1820 in Mussy-sur-Seine, France and died in 1885 in Algiers, Algeria. Labbé was a disciple of Alexandre-Gabriel Decamps and became a landscape painter. He exhibited at the Salons of 1836 and 1876. During the 1840’s Labbé developed himself as a painter of oriental subjects. He traveled extensively in the Middle East and North Africa and received a commission to decorate the palace of the Sultan in Constantinople, Turkey. In 1876 he set (showing 500 of 2095 characters). |
