A painter and decorative artist and prominent in the Young Poland movement in the early 20th century, Jazef Mehoffer is represented in the Krakow Museum.  He studied in Krakow at the Academy of Fine Arts under Wladyslaw Luszczkiewicz, and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna as well as in Paris at the Académie Colarossi among others.

In Paris, Mehoffer began painting portraits, often people of historical significance.  Later he expanded his repertoire to include graphic art, stained glass, textiles, chalk drawings, etchings, book illustrations, theatre set designs and stylized furniture designs.

He was especially noted for his stained glass windows, 1895-1936, in the Gothic St Nicholas Collegiate Church in Fribourg, Switzerland.  He has also created stained glass designs for the "Radziwill Chapel in Balice (1892), Grauer Chapel in Opava (1901), church in Jutrosini (1902), Holy Cross Chapel at Wawel (1904), sepulchral chapel in Goluchoów (1906), Orgelmeister Chapel in Vienna (1910), cathedral in Wloclawek (1935-40), cathedral in Przemysl (1940) and church in Debniki near Krakow (1943)."

He did numerous book covers, ornaments and posters and also did frescoes reflective of medieval art.  Associates and collaborators included Stanislaw Wyspianski and Jan Matejko.
