This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, submitted July 2004, is from Carol Nordon Johnson, descendant of the artist. Her source is her Great Aunt, Helen Hale, niece of the artist.

Willis Plummer
Son of Franklin Bergen Plummer and Eunice Mason (Johnson) Plummer
Born July 5, 1838 (possibly 1839) in New Hampshire
Siblings-Franklin Howard Plummer born July 10, 1842 (NH) and Arabella Johnson Plummer born October 30, 1856 (MA)
Lived in Lawrence, MA and worked at the South Lawrence Railroad Station
Married Ellen Churchill and had 2 sons-Frederick Carl Plummer and Harry Churchill Plummer
Lost a leg at some point in his life
Sold some of his art work at the railroad station
Painted in oil and watercolor; painted still lifes, landscapes, and marine scenes
Seems to have liked the seaside and vacationed there (my parents have a watercolor of Ash Lane, Nantucket Island; my cousin in Maine reports that Uncle Willis used to vacation at Grand Manan Island in NB, Canada)
