This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Paul Putzkie was born March 9,1858, in Germany near Breslau, close to the Polish border.  While the name is of Polish origin, the immediate family was German.

Putzki came to America as a young man of twenty-two to a job he had been promised as a decorator in a china factory in East Liverpool, Ohio.  He stayed there a few years and then went to Chicago where he opened a studio.  In one of his classes was a Mrs.P.B.Ware, a wealthy woman from Richmond, Indiana, who persuaded him to go once a week to Richmond and teach a class there.  Among those in the class was Mrs. Benjamin Harrison. When her husband was elected president, Mrs.Harrison persuaded Putzki to come to Washington, where he located his studio in the old Metzerott Building at 1110 F Street,N.W.

He died in Washington on February 25,1936.

This information was provided in a letter to this writer, dated April 27,1971, from Dr. Paul Putzski, his son, who lives in the Washington D.C., area.  I am a member of the Schlesier Verein Milwaukee.  My ancestors come from Schoenau a.d.Katzback, Kreis Hirschberg--EBM Jr.

This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Establishing a studio in Washington DC at the invitation of Caroline Harrison, the wife of President Benjamin Harrison, Paul Putzki was also an art teacher, having previously taught classes in watercolor and china painting in Chicago and Indianapolis.

His wife was artist Kate Putzki, and his daughter, Dorothy Putzki, was also an artist.
