Biography from Papillon Gallery:
Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data compared to the extensive information about American artists.

Raymond Dierickx was born in Uccle, Belgium in 1904.  He was the son of Joseph Dierickx and the nephew of Omer Dierickx, both accomplished and successful artists.

Beginning in 1920, Dierickx studied with Delville and Fabry at l’Académie de Bruxelles.  His first exhibition was in 1926 at Galerie G. Giroux, a gallery known for showing Belgian Modern artists including James Ensor and Rik Wouters.

Dierickx participated in “L’Expositions Internationales de Liege” in 1930 and another international exhibition in Brussels in 1935.  He also showed in an exhibition of Belgian art in Oslo, Norway in 1938.

Dierickx began teaching at l’Académie d’Ixelles in 1932.  His work is represented in museums in Ixelles, Mons, and Reims.

Dierickx’s paintings are typical of the Belgian Expressionists.  His use of cubist techniques, combined with angular brush strokes, a splendid use of color, and lyrical and intriguing subjects are the essentials characteristics of Belgian Modern Art.
