Born in Dorset, England John Everett, whose full name was Herbert Barnard John Everett, became a prolific painter of dramatic seascapes, sailing ships and landscapes and also of floral still life. Of his work, it was written that he "explored the visual effects of dazzle painting."
In 1895, he and Julius Olsson founded a school for teaching seascape painting.
His own education was at the Slade School of Fine Art* and the Academie Julian* in Paris.
