Joseph Fruhmesser was born in Linz, Austria, in 1928. His father was a civil engineer and traveled about Austria and Bavaria a great deal, on various assignments, during Joseph's childhood. The boy grew to love the scenery and mountains of Bavaria and his native Austria, and begin to sketch them at every opportunity.
After the Austrian Anschluss, he served in the Army; then after World War II, he moved to Munich where he made it his home. He married set up a studio and begin to paint. He was a self taught artist who's paintings where his lifetime occupation.
