Born in Havana, Cuba Vicente Hernández studied at the Instituto Superior de Batabanó and then, for two years, 1994 to 1996, was a professor in this university’s Department of Fine Arts.  He has received recognition from the Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (2006, 2004, 2000, 1998, 1996, 1994), an Honorable Mention at the Eduardo Abela Exposition (1997) and First Prize in the contest Jornada Cucalambiana de Décima Ilustrada, (1996).

He has also done cover illustraton for books including Arturo Arango's award-winning novel Muerte de nadie (TusQuets Editores,2004).  The artist currently resides in Batabanó, Cuba.

During the 2002 exhibit The Marvelous World of Bujamey, historian Eusebio Leal Spengler dedicated these words to the artist:

"A genuine surrealism, a poetic inspiration guide the artist's brush as the wind ushers the sails of a ship. So surprisingly rare is the subject matter and so revealing of his personality the finished canvas, that it is appropriate to think that a laurel wreath, well-deserved, will adorn the painter's brow. It is an exceptional privilege for he who succeeds in breaking, in an instant, the space mediating between silence and the word, the mandate of the soul and the blind hand."
