The following information is from Richard Pitcairn-Knowles, great nephew of the artist.
Born: September 1845 Rotterdam
Died: 1903 London
1st son of William Pitcairn-Knowles (1820-1894) by his first wife Elizabeth Smith.
Brother Richard. Half brothers James and Andrew by second wife Doris Kluge.
Married Fanny Campbell, daughter of American Consul in Rotterdam.
Had three children: Elizabeth, Josephine, Ethel.
Lived at: The Cedars, Burton, Christchurch in 1893.
Painter of landscapes.
Exhibited five works at Royal Society of British Artists including, The Haven Houses Near Christchurch and Morning on the Swale.
Exhibited two works at Royal Academy, five at New Water Colour Society and two at the National Gallery.
"Christchurch Priory" and "Idle Moment, Rye" are in private collections.
