Mildred Mai  Ledger (1879-1939)

Born at Hackney, London in 1879, daughter of Henry Ledger (1846-1934), manager of an engineering works, and his wife Mary née Bellamy (1849-1941), who married at Hackney in 1871.  In 1891 an 11 year old living at 170 Amhurst Road, Hackney with her parents, 45 year old Henry, born Mile End and 42 year old Mary, born Hackney and her elder sibling 15 year old Constance.  Mildred studied at St. John's Wood and the Royal Academy Schools and in 1901 was at a boarding house at 37 Warrior Square, Hasting when described as 'no occupation' and in 1911 had returned home, living at 20 Park Hill, Hampstead, London with her parents, her father was now a 'South African merchant' who then moved to Ipswich where he was living in 1930.

A miniature portrait painter and commercial artist.  She exhibited at Liverpool Walker Art Gallery, Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Color, Royal Miniature Society and the Society of Women Artists 1901-1937 from Hampstead, London in 1901 and from Ipswich in 1934.  She died, unmarried, at Ivry Lodge, Ivry Street, Ipswich in 1939, aged 59.  Her father also died at Ipswich and mother in Suffolk.
