The artist was born in Vorontsovka region in 1926. In 1949 he began exhibiting and participated in an exhibition of the works of military artists, where the well known artist Aleksandr Gerasimov admired his work.
Aleksei Prokopenko served in the Soviet Army until 1952. From 1956 he regularly showed his paintings in exhibits of Russian artists of Moscow. Prokopenko graduated from the Surikov Art Academy. He was a Merited Member of the Union of Artists and lived in Volgograd. An important theme in his art has been the battle of Stalingrad. Important shows include: "Soviet Russia" Moscow 1960. |
