Fabrice Rebeyrolle was born in 1955. in Paris, France.  He lives and works in Saint Christol lez-Alès in the south of France. The work of Rebeyrolle is a journey of discovery. This applies not only to the viewer, but to a great extend to the artist himself. Observing the final result of Rebeyrolle’s creative process, one is intrigues by his extraordinary use of colour and materials. The eye, wandering over the canvas, discovers detail after detail. Impressions and associations accumulate, leading to a complete image, a feeling, a unique atmosphere.

At times, diverse moods are evoked, which eventually flow back together to that singular feeling. The artist puts tension into his paintings, bringing experience and dynamics into perfect balance.

Rebeyrolle does not often title his works, nor do they refer to a specific subject. All emphasis is placed on the used materials and the non-figurative composition. Indeed, the lack of titles stimulates the imagination and experience of the viewer.

The evolution of a painting is for Rebeyrolle himself a journey of discovery. Every new work is a process, the recording of a creative moment and a state of mind. Rebeyrolle is uninhibited at the outset of a work, and enters into a dialogue with his materials. He applies oil-colours, pastels, paper, cardboard, jute, sand or ash in multiple layers. He then proceeds to cutting, sanding or gouging. As a result, new structures arise and the underlying layers are revealed. Colour provides an element of the atmosphere and gives expression to an emotion.

It takes more than a fleeting glance to get to know the work of Rebeyrolle. One must experience the artist’s expressive intentions. He combines feelings to create powerful compositions which radiate harmony and balance.
