Biography from Daphne Alazraki Fine Art:
| Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data
compared to the extensive information about American artists.
There is little biographical data known about Harmen Willemsz Wieringa apart from his work in Friesland, where he is recorded as an advisor to the local government, recommending design for buildings and ceremonial carriages. It is documented that Wieringa was married to Margaretha van Tongeren, and that they had four children together, one of whom was also a portrait painter.
Wybrand Simonsz. de Geest I, also a portrait painter in Friesland, had the most influence on Wieringa's work. Wieringa's paintings are rare and most of his known work is kept in Dutch museums; these are primarily small in size and depict the sitter in full length.
