W. Stanton Forbes was born in Athens, Georgia. As a child, he
studied art with his aunt, the artist Lucy May Stanton. He
graduated from the University of Georgia in 1932 with a BA in English
and received a Master’s degree in English from Vanderbilt University
under the poet John Crowe Ransom.
Having saved money all of his life, Forbes went to Italy in 1938 to
study fresco under Giovanni Colacicchi. From 1942-45 Forbes
served with the U. S. Army, 602nd Engineer (showing 500 of 2531 characters). |
