Raoul Verlet was a French sculptor.  He was born at Angoulême on 7 September 1857 and died in Cannes in 1923.

By age 17 he decided to devote himself to sculpture.  He spent two years at Bordeaux, and came to Paris where he went to art school and became a student of Cavalier and especially Barrias.  He won a scholarship in his hometown. His early works were very popular with the public including two statues on the gravestones as part of a monument to the dead children in the Charente in 1870.  This recognition earned him a commission for a sculpture commemorating the sacrifice of children in the Indre in the town of Chateauroux.

He won a Prix de Rome and in 1887, a Prize for his sculpture, Pain of Orpheus.  He received the Medal of Honor at the Salon of 1900  He lived in Louviers (c. 1895-1910) and was president of the Friends of the Arts of Eure.

He was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honneur and in 1910, was elected a member of the Academy of Fine Arts.
