Hazel Barker Hayes was born in Amite (Tangipahoa Parish), Louisiana. She painted in a Brown County studio for 25 years. Her teachers were V.J. Cariani and C. Curry Bohm. Her artwork was exhibited at the Herron Art Museum and the Southern States Art League. Prizes awarded to her include the Indiana Art Council and the Delgado Museum, New Orleans.
