CLAUDE DEJOUX
Dejoux was one of many sculptors who spanned the Rococo to Empire periods in the history of French art. He was born at Vadans (Jura) on January 23, 1732, and studied under Guillaume II Coustou (1716-1777). There his colleagues included the obscure Jacques-Philippe Beauvais (1739-1781) and Pierre Julien (1731-1804); the latter became an intimate friend, constant companion and practically a doppelgänger sculptor (see Worley, 2003, pp. 11-12, 67, 72).
