Sadayuki Uno (Japanese/Californian, 1901-1989) was born in Japan, but moved to the U.S. to be with his father. He attended high school in Oakland, California, after which he received a scholarship to the California College of Arts and Crafts. He continued to study art and worked as an interior decorator and gardener in the Bay Area through the Depression.
