This biography from the Archives of AskART:

A. L. Tice served as State Artist of Kansas and painted 7 commissioned portraits of U.S. Senator Arthur Capper which hang in public buildings all over Kansas and in Washington, D.C.  He painted portraits of many other well-known Kansans, George Washington Carver, Booker T. Washington, and other famous persons, while he taught Painting and Drawing for 22 years at Midland College at Atchison, Kansas.  He also was commissioned to paint Stations of the Cross altar works for the Assumption Catholic Church located next to the State Capitol in Topeka.  His biblical paintings hang in cathedrals, Protestant and Catholic congregations, synagogues and small chapels all over the world.

Submitted by the artist's grandson, Jim Tice.

Born June 22, 1871, in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas, Mr. Tice died November 21, 1955, and is buried in the Rochester Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas. He was also known as A.L. Tice and Arthur Lee Tice.
