Valerius The Saedeleer was a Flemish painter of landscapes. He was buried in the city cemetery of Aalst .
De Saedeleer received his first artistic training at the Ghent Academy of Fine Arts from Theodore Joseph Canneel. He mainly painted the Lys and the Flemish Ardennes and was one of the major figures of the first group of the Latem School, mystic painters interested in Realist styles and rebels against Impressionism.

Valerius De Saedeleer lived from November 1895 to October 1898 in Lissewege  in a farm along the Ter Doest Street. From 1898 to 1908 he lived in Sint-Martens-Latem. The Lys Bight there is the subject of some of his paintings. He then moved to the villa "Tynlon" in Etikhove , where an artists colony with him as the central figure was located. In 1937 he left the house.

The Groeningemuseum owns a painting by him, Entrance to the village, which he painted in June 1896, commissioned by the then Secretary-brewer Lissewege, Louis Dhondt. The Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent and the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenensa also have paintings by De Saedeleer. In Lissewege was a path and in Aalst a street named after him.
