This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Susan Wolding was born in Redwood City, California in 1954 and has been painting for over 55 years. She started painting at 14 years old, selling at 17 years old, and won the Bank of America award for her three-dimensional piece in Sunnyvale, California at the age of 16.  Since then she has received numerous awards of First and Best of Show, entering many art shows in the Santa Clara Valley with her mother, Roxie Pierce.

Susan graduated from Brooks College in Long Beach, California. where she studied Art and Design.  She also earned her Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design.  Painting on walls and canvas earned her recognition as a Trompe l'Oeil Mural Artist and  she received a  commission by the Sunnyvale Hilton to paint 3 murals in their restaurant and lobby.  She has taken her talent through many homes in San Mateo, Los Gatos, Santa Clara, and other counties in the central and southern part of California.  Her oils captured many as she produced abstracts of deep-sea art, some of which hang in well-known restaurants, under the name of Susan E. Pierce.

Her 'Ghost Paintings' were created in her 20's and in her 30's.  She learned the art of tattoo and covered many bodies with her art, winning first place in the world for upper body art from her large full upper body 'Eagle' piece in 1990.  Captured on the Easy Rider Tattoo Magazine cover.  As her artistic life progressed, she resigned from being a tattoo artist for the sake of her eyes, and she was asked to understudy with Edgardo Garcia in Hawaii in 1992.  Staying there for 4 1/2 years she covered gallery walls with her new, including art of the underwater sea creatures. Dolphins, whales, turtles were featured in an above and below the scene.  For fun she would take her art to the zoo fence in Honolulu, Hawaii and put them up for display and sell them.

Through her life she was always drawing close to God and through this she discovered that she was blessed with the art of healing and grew stronger and stronger with his wisdom.  She studied under a Kahuna in Hawaii for a year taking her to another plane of knowledge and helping her to focus and tune up what she did have.

She is a horse, as the Chinese calendar goes, born on the Ides of March, always sensitive to all people, looking for the beautiful things and understood by few.  In the 2000's she moved to Florida, a step away from Hawaii, missing the Aloha Spirit, but never forgetting where she comes from.  She opened her own gallery and has taken in over 100 artists to join in the life.

Susan is always painting somewhere, on the road-side or hidden away in some quaint spot she has found with her little easel and chair. She travels to Hawaii and paints on most Islands, especially Kauai.  She is known for her painting of the Kahuku Sugar Mill, Punaluu Art Gallery, Wizard of Oz, Prince Neptune and her "Underwater Sea Creatures".  Susan is also a poet, winning the 3rd prize award at the Poetry Convention in Orlando, Florida in 2003.  Her poetry can be found on on-line, search by Susan Wolding.
