This biography from the Archives of AskART:

Artist statement:

I did my first oil painting in 1970.  After mentors, influences and 39 years a developed painting style enables me to reflect what is imagined, thought or felt.

Humans are interesting to me and I like to portray a multitude of different emotions and interactions between them.  Idealisms are what I believe that the viewer most likely connects with.  I think that all of us at one time or another think about being somewhere else or long to be held and told that we matter or just being appreciated in some way.  These intangibles are what I would hope to capture in a piece.

I have my own set of color rules and I like using red.  The clarity of an image is as important as the obscurity of others contrasted in the same piece.

I want to apply emotions or thoughts mixed with the compositions and some genuine intention to display the human on canvas and nothing less.

Biography from Gallery Andrea:
ARTIST STATEMENT:
“I want to apply emotions or thoughts mixed with the composition and some genuine intention to display the human on canvas and nothing less.”

The mother and grandfather of Joseph McCabe were both artists, as were family members of the generation before them.  Joseph McCabe has painted since age ten.  He has studied the techniques of the European Masters and works with styles he develops from what he reflects, imagines, thinks or feels.

Figurative work fascinates him to portray a multitude of different emotions and interactions between people.  He paints with palette knives, brushes, rags and fingers as he applies the paint and applies different textures such as crushed amethyst, titanium, dried flowers and other things.

The colors in his paintings are unique since he has developed his own set of color rules and frequently uses red. The clarity of an image is as important as the obscurity of others contrasted in the same piece.  He uses color hue and intensity more so than light and shadow.
