Biography from a third party submitted on 04/10/2008:
Shiv Singh's abstract painting and sculpture reflects his never-ending endeavor to renew his inborn seminal touch and import into his creative output a force, form and basic strength of the objects and their phenomenal natural manifestations.  In this attempt to transform experience into form in a variety of mediums, his goal is to turn out a tangible object retaining its affinity to nature.

His method with his open and endless forms, whether they are sculptures or paintings, is to work with great sensibility and refinement, making them works that are precise and unambiguous with that poetry that can reside in irregular things.  He is a painter of tantra and cosmic forms depicting the balance of centrifugal and centripetal forces.

Born in 1938, Shiv Singh got his 5 year art degree in 1962 from the College of Art, Chandigarh.  Thereafter he taught art at Sanik School, Kapurthala.  He received a German scholarship for advanced study and research in art by DAAD, for 3 years.

He has 68 solo exhibitions in India and abroad including Germany, England, Scotland, Denmark, Sweden and Canada.  He participated in numerous national and international group exhibitions and festivals of art.  Various TV channels televised documentary films on him and his works.  He had been a member of the National Academy of Art, Delhi for 15 years, as well as the chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi, Chandigarh for 5 years.  He was given the National Award in 1979 and the President of India Award in art in 1982 and many more awards and honours at the state level.

He is a retired Professor of Art from Government College of Chandigarh.
