Guan Jian was born in Liaoning Province in 1957, and graduated from
Liaoning Art Normal School. Currently, Guan is a professional artist
and a member of China Artists’ Association.
Growing up from
northeastern countryside, Guan Jian’s spiritual cultivation and life
experience all have close relationships with farmers and land. He also
expresses great passion for farmers when choosing painting topic. In
his works, Guan Jian uses thick colors, bold brushworks, and bulky image
of figure to manifest appearance of people from working class,
presenting farmers’ sincere personality. Grayish color is the leading
color in Guan’s works. He depicts human figures with oversized hands
and feet which symbolize artist’s personal strong mental strength.
Besides, Guan Jian’s painting technique of simplicity and classic
constructs an ingenuous and ruthful aura. The extremely personal style
of presentation enables Guan Jian’s art to display a down-to-earth life
of farmers’ and to interpret its succinct meaning, as well as to show
out artist’s warm personality.
