| Raised in southern Caifornia and living in Madison, Wisconsin, Rose Van Vranken is a sculptor, doing direct carving in wood and stone and then sometimes, making bronze castings from those carved forms. She also works with handmade paper, etchings, polyester resin and fiberglass.
She attended the Art Students League in New York City, studying with William Zorach and Robert Laurent, and New York University's Graduate Institute of Fine Art as an Art History student.
"Early awards include a 1st prize for sculpture from the Los Angeles County Museum, 1st prizes from the Des Moines Art Center, two bronze medals for sculpture from the Oakland Art Center, awards for graphics and sculpture from the Walker Art Center and the Joslyn Museum and a Medal of Honor for graphics from the National Association of Women Artists, and Medal of Honor in Sculpture, Academic Artists Association, Springfield, MA."
She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists, Salmagundi Club, Texas Society of Sculptors and Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors.

| Born in New Jersey in 1918. Raised in southern California Van Vranken had settled in Pasadena. After graduating from Pasadena Jr College, she won art scholarships at Pomona College in 1936-38, and then studied at the CSFA and ASL in NYC. In 1942 she wed Dr. Robert Hickey and settled in Iowa City, IA. She is currently a resident of Madison, WI.
