Biography from Dixon-Hall Fine Art:
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Jeanette Slocomb Edwards studied at the Clawson S. Hammitt School of Art* in her native city, as well as the Friends School and Pennsylvania School of Industrial Art in 1914 and studies in Paris, Venice, and Florence.  She studied with the well-known artists Anthony Thieme of Rockport, MA, Sue May Gill of Philadelphia, John McCoy of Chadds Ford, and Edward Grant and Charles A. MacLellan of Wilmington.

She was a charter member of the Studio Group*, founded in 1935 by women artists from Wilmington.  The group met originally at 1616 Rodney Street in the Bancroft Studios and later at 1305 N. Franklin St. at Howard Pyle’s former studio.  Edwards was also a member of the Wilmington Society of the Fine Arts and Philadelphia Art Alliance and taught classes at Drexel Hill and the New Century Club. She exhibited at the V.I.A. summer art exhibition in Rehobeth Beach (1936-1950s).

Her paintings are in the permanent collections of the Delaware Art Museum, Hotel DuPont, University of Delaware, Rehobeth Art League, Selbyville Public Library as well as many private collections throughout the state and beyond.

Also a poet, Edwards was appointed poet laureate of the State of Delaware in 1950.
