Biography from CalART.com:
Jack Schnitzius was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. After high school he studied architectural design at the University of Illinois. As part of the curriculum he received instruction in watercolor painting. In addition he attended life drawing classes at the Art Institute of Chicago.

In the mid 1950s he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Hawaii. Afterwards he went back to Chicago and earned a Masters Degree. In 1960 he moved to Oakland, California and lived near Lake Merit. For several years he pursued a career as a fine art watercolor painter.

During this period he produced many watercolor paintings, drawings and some oil paintings. Many of them were inspired by Bay Area landscape, cityscape and industrial views near the waterfront of Oakland. He sold the watercolors and drawings through the Artist Co-op Gallery on Union Street in San Francisco. He usually signed the front of his watercolors with an abstract monogram which looks like a box and a cross but actually is a combination of his initials JBS.

Since the late 1960s Schnitzius has worked in the fields of graphic design and landscape design. He is part of a small East Bay artist group and continues producing fine art, focusing on figurative works and still life subjects.
