Born in the Ukraine in Russia, Alex Girshin is a landscape, figure and portrait painter and, in 2008, an Artist in Residence in Rye, New York. Through a Jewish benefactor organization, he emigrated to America with his parents when he was two years old. Until he was twelve, the family lived in Brooklyn, and then moved to Ridgefield Springs, New York, near Cooperstown.
