Obituary. Wicasset Newspaper, Monday, January 28, 2013

Earle G. Barlow, 89, of East Boothbay died Friday, January 25 at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor.

He was born October 6, 1923 in East Boothbay to Everett and Rosamond Grover Barlow.  Earle grew up in East Boothbay and lived most of his life here.  He graduated from Gould Academy and Tufts University where he received his bachelor's degree and master's in education.  He served in the Navy during World War II.

Earle was a well known marine artist.  He taught art in Salem, Mass. and moved to Brunswick in 1954 where he taught from 1954 to 1962 at Brunswick High School.  He opened his own art gallery and continued making art until about four years ago.  He built his own boat from 1969 to 1973, a 34-foot Gaff Rig Ketch.  He spent three years on his boat sailing across the Atlantic, around Europe and back to East Boothbay.  He and his wife were avid square dancers for more than 20 years. They met many friends through their dancing in the communities they visited.
