Biography from Adam Tamsky Fine Art:
Dorothy LaSelle was born in Nebraska in 1901.  After earning a BA in English from Nebraska Wesleyan University, she received her MA from the University of Chicago in 1926.  She had her first solo exhibit at the Renaissance Society Gallery at the University of Chicago in 1926, and then spent a half year traveling Europe.  In 1928 she began what was to be a long career teaching at a small women's college in Texas.

LaSelle spent her sabbatical year in 1931-32 studying at the California School of Fine Arts with Ralph Stackpole and Maurice Stern.  In the summers of 1942 and 43 she studied with Moholy-Nagy at the Institute of Design in Chicago.

Beginning in 1944 she began studying in Provincetown at Hans Hoffman's School, and she returned for several years studying with Robert Motherwell in the early 1950's.

LaSelle retired from Texas Woman's University in 1972, and began living in Provincetown full-time during the 1980's.  She died in 2002 at the age of 100.

This biographical information was taken from Texas Modern:The Rediscovery of Early Texas Abstraction (1935-1965) a catalogue which accompanied the exhibit at Baylor University in  Waco, Texas in 2007
