Born in Rome, Italy in 1944, Umberto Adggi atudied art at Liceum Artistico in Rome. In 1964, exhibited in Tivoli with a group of young contemporary artists.
During this time he studied wood carving, metal work and restoration of antique furniture.
He then during this period developed his style for primitive wood cuts and abstract oils.
He emigrated to South Africa in 1966.
