German born, Gustav Sager was a resident of St. Mary's, Iowa for many years, and then returned to his native Germany. In Iowa and Nebraska during the 1850s and 60s, he did many water color drawings of historic value.
Surviving work by Sager is from an elaborately designed border of a map of St. Mary's done by Stanislas Schimonsky. Sager's border has panels with detailed scenes of Iowa and Nebraska done in watercolor. Two of them are in the collection of the Nebras (showing 500 of 731 characters). |
