In 1968, Ellen married William P. Stouffer and thus joined a Quaker
family whose 275 years of rich American heritage includes generations
of farmers, artists, and clockmakers. Bill, also an artist, has
transformed the fields that surround their home into lush gardens and
garden rooms. He has also planted hundreds of trees that form a
backdrop for these gardens and thus provides a resting place for many
varieties of birds and animals.
