Duff McIlvain is my cousin, and I recall that in his earlier years he painted a number of oil paintings. One was of a deer laying in a pasture, that hung in our home for many years. Until I read some about him online in AskArt I was not even aware of him belonging to any “Artist” affiliations. Upon asking him about this I found out that he had attended various art classes and one art school early in his life here in Wichita, Kansas. He also had an active interest in photography, and both took and developed his own pictures.
When we moved him to an assisted living facility some 5 years ago (2004) and needed to clear out his home, I found some 10 or more camera’s, photo developing equipment, and a room full of painting equipment, such as brushes, oil paint jars, etc.
He is a World War II veteran, where he served overseas as a medic and has a number of medals, including the Bronze Star. He is retired from Boeing Aircraft
