Becky Robbins’ portraits offer a fresh and very present perspective on the individual subjects, created in the ancient method of encaustic painting.
Encaustic is also known as hot wax painting; it involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigment is added, usually done on board and in a layering process. Unlike oil or acrylic, light passes through the translucent layers and is reflected back to the surface, creating a luminosity that is the key characteristic of encaustic.
