Considered an eccentric artist in his home country of Hungary, Tivadar
Csontvary-Kosztka was a pharmacist by occupation, who, at age 27,
experienced a mystic vision where he got the message that he was to be
a great plein air painter. Visiting galleries and painting, he
traveled extensively in Europe and from 1890, around the world visiting
the Middle East, Africa and more places in Europe. Most of
his major works were painted between 1903 and 1909, and in 1907, an
exhib (showing 500 of 1270 characters). |
