Shi Wei was born in 1965. He graduated from Hubei Fine Arts Institute,
majoring in oil painting, and then received his master’s degree in 1997.
He is currently an associate professor of Beijing City University.
Some of his important exhibitions include: 2000 “Exhibition of Five
Artists from Hubei,” Wuhan; 2000 “Interface,” Beijing; 2003 “The 7th
Asian Art Exhibition,” Korea; 2005, “Difference and Construction,”
Beijing; 2005 “Entrancing: Contemporary Painting Exhibition,” BIAC Art
Space; 2006 “Unity of Sometimes,” Gallery Beijing Space; “Art Beijing
2006,” National Agricultural Exhibition Hall; “Hong Kong International
Contemporary Art Fair (ICAF) 2007,” Hong Kong Exhibition Centre; 2007
“Nothingness of Body,” Space DA, Beijing 798 Art Zone. Skinny woman in
Shi Wei’s works represents a fixed image under current consumerism, and
this is what Shi Wei wants audience to think over the core value of
today’s female body image.
