Janet Margaret Mueller was born in Champaign, Illinois on October 29 1952. She has a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, College of Commerce from the University of Illinois, 1975. From 1977 to 1984, Janet worked at a television station, creating commercials. Later, she freelanced as a graphic designer and illustrator, as well as a producer of advertisements in TV and print. She was nominated for 30 awards for creativity during those years, winning 11, including a Best of Show.
Janet also painted on fabric and designed clothing. In 1990, she was commissioned by the Spiegel Company to create 900 hand-painted caftans plus 1000 signed serigraphs of her fashion illustrations. These were featured on page 3 of their Christmas catalog. Janet Mueller then focused on her future as a painter of fine art.
In 1993, Janet M Mueller moved to Key West, Florida. Her painting style has changed from contemporary figurative to total abstraction. She has explored a variety of media and techniques from ink on watercolor paper to oil on large canvases and art made from found objects to hand-painted ceramics.
Janet has had many solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group shows. In 2001 she was invited to show her collection of paintings in Rome, Italy at the Centro per L'Assistenza Sociale e Culturale. In 2005 her controversial Political Views series in mixed media was shown at the Tropic Cinema in Key West, Florida. In 2008, crude assemblages focusing on political concerns, plus large colorful abstracts which reflect messages of inner peace were shown in a solo exhibit at The Studios of Key West. The display of 33 works was entitled, A People Sticks Its Neck Out, a Show of Politics and Peace. In October 2008, two works by Janet M Mueller from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth W. Grams were loaned to the Longview Museum of Fine Arts in Longview, Texas.
Today, in the dynamic artistic city of Miami Beach, Janet continues to paint messages in abstract images with bold, dripping strokes of acrylic paint onto large canvases and through constructions in mixed media. She is constantly seeking new methods of expression.
