| Born in Pennsylvania on Nov. 22, 1892. Hartswick spent most of his life in his native state in Clearfield (1910) and State College (1930). He later moved to San Diego, CA where he remained until his death on May 12, 1969. A carpenter, in his leisure he made painting forays to the back country of the area.
