This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Prussia in 1828.  By 1880 Schneider had moved to San Francisco.  He was soon in competetion with the Tojetti painters as a muralist-decorator for the homes of the nouveau riche.  After the earthquake in 1906, he moved across the bay to Oakland.  Most of his frescoes went up in flames in the fire that followed the earthquake.  He died in Marin County, CA on November 12, 1921.
