Nicholas Hakebourne (Nicholas Ackworth Hakebourne) British, born in 1969
He was born in Gloucestershire, England, U.K., 1969 and currently lives and works in London, England.
Hakebourne appropriates the styles and figures of art history to draw them again making emphasis on provocative geometrical views & hi-tech connotations between contemporary social concerns and technology developments and “obsolete” ideologies.
Primarily interested in the concept of image veneration – both in the contexts in which past events are documented through modern museology, and in the physical forms by which they have been represented – Hakebourne exhumes the complex inner mathematical & geometrical essence of still-life artifacts and natural landscapes, undermining their value and truth through his witty and complex material juxtapositions using wire, optical materials, mesh and construction type materials. Also he is very popular for his pixelated re-arrangements of natural and human build elements.
His work has been exhibited in: TATE Modern of London, Musée d’ Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, France, European Biennial of the Visual Arts’, La Spezia, Italia, Center for Contemporary Art, Malmo, Suecia and the International Istanbul Biennal for name a few.
He belongs to the same generation of British young and important artists such as Anish Kapoor, Jason Martin & Cornelia Parker.
