Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data compared to the extensive information about American artists.

Julie Robinson Nangala, is one of five daughters of the well-known artist Dorothy Napangardi.  Julie was born in 1973 in Yuendumu and started depicting the Dreaming story of Pirlinyanu, a Water Dreaming site (Ngapa Jukurrpa) in the late 1990's.

The daughters also grew up amongst artists such as Eunice Napangardi, Polly Napangardi Watson to name but two.

Julie often paints alongside her mother Dorothy and her work resembles Dorothy's award winning style of dot art.  Julie has a distinctive minimal and precise dotting style of art.

Her father's country is near Pirinyanu.  It is an area of rocky outcrops and deep water springs and the Water Dreaming is her main creative expression.

Her mother is from the Warlpiri clan, coming from the southern edge of the Tanami Desert.  It is a vast dry area of stretching sand hills.
