| Born in Florenceville, IA on Oct. 22, 1887. Oakley was educated in Los Angeles at St Mary's Academy. It was there that she studied painting under a French nun. The artist's family would not allow her to become a professional artist and as a result she eventually lost her mind. Her last paintings, which include still lifes, landscapes and portraits, are dated 1911. She died in Tustin, CA on Jan. 26, 1985.
