This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following information is from a relative of the artist.

I am the great granddaughter of Emil Hansen.  His correct name should be Emil Gustav Dannhausen. He studied at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts. He was art director for a Chicago etching and manufacturing company for over 30 years and was President of the Austin Town Hall Art Guild.

In his spare time, he restored paintings that were a century or more old.  He worked in oil, water color and ink sketches. The Chicago Tribune once quoted him as saying, “My favorite method,” he said with a chuckle, “is to find a bottle of beer first.  The painting goes better then!” (Metro Section, Chicago Tribune, May 14, 1949)

He was born 8/15/1881 and died in 10/9/1954.  He came to the US by boat in 1904.

Sincerely,
Christine Dannhausen-Brun

(Emil was father to Harold Richard Dannhausen I, who was father to Myles Richard Dannhausen, who is father to me, Christine Ann Dannhausen-Brun)
