This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Much of the following information, submitted August 2005 by Charles Sweigart, was provided by Marguerite A Dibble (formerly Murdoch), grand niece of the artist and grand daughter of Charles Spiegle, Jr., who was the brother of the artist.

Frederick M Spiegle was a prolific artist, creating both etchings and oil illustrations of wildlife for various publications.

Frederick Spiegle married Emma D Meuller in 1898 in New York City. They had no children. In the artist's obituary in the "New York Times", December 20, 1942, it was written that "Frederick M Spiegle painter of wildlife and etcher, died (yesterday) after a long illness. Through his interest in big game hunting, Mr. Spiegle became a friend of President Theodore Roosevelt and of Dan Beard, Boy Scout leader. Some of his paintings of animal wildlife hang at the New York Zoological Garden. He studied art in Paris."

F M worked for many years with F C Klackner American Etchings, NY, NY, publisher

F M was the brother of Charles Jr. and both were sons of Charles Spiegle. Charles and Charles Jr were successful artists as well. Charles Jr. was best known for portraying "Aunt Jemima"
