Gasper Vitale or "Gabby" (born Jan. 29, 1929)
Gasper Vitale or better known as "Gabby" " was born in Manhattan, New York on January 29, 1929. At a very early age he had a special interest and talent for painting and art. In 1934 he won the 23rd Children's Art Competition sponsored by John Wanamakers Department Store in NYC. Upon entering High School he decided to major in art. He was known as 'Gabby" and at this point started to sign all his works with this name.
After graduating high school, he took a job as an apprentice in an advertising art firm called Illustrator Inc. in Grand Central Terminal. He also studied at the Pratt Institute, and the Mechanics Institute in NYC. After a career as a contractor, he went back to his roots in art, and devotes all his time to his passion. His wonderful folk art style is charming and full of life. At 80 years of age, he is still busy painting, and no doubt will always be loved through the next generations of collectors.
