This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Elizabeth Russell Lewis was born in Capitol View, Maryland on April 30, 1908.  The Russell family moved to South Pasadena in 1921.  Elizabeth married Max Lewis on New Year’s Eve 1929. The young couple lived in a shack in the Mojave Desert until 1941 when they moved to a home in Altadena.  While active with the Sierra Club, she produced many oil paintings and lithographs, inspired by the ghost towns, mountains, and deserts of southern California.  Widowed in 1956, two years later she married Dick Sprang, creator of Superman and Batman comics.  The couple lived in Utah where Elizabeth continued to paint and explore the canyon country.   After their divorce, in 1971 she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where in 1978 she wed Percival King who collaborated with Oppenheimer on the nuclear bomb.  Elizabeth King died in Santa Fe in 1997.
