This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Buffalo, New York, Barbara Mink studied with Stan Taft, Bill Benson, and the late Bente King and Thomas Buechner. She is a member of the State of the Art Gallery in Ithaca, the Ithaca Art Trail, the Buffalo Society of Artists and Western NY Artists Group.

Artist Statement:
"I have chosen a radical new direction for my current work in my search for beauty and psychological depth in art. Previously muscular, vigorously chromatic, and heavily layered paintings have evolved in the direction of the spare, the muted, and the geometric. I believe that scale has as much to do with the power of the image to enter the imagination, as it does with physical dimensions.

Using un-primed canvas and linen into which the paint soaks, as well as floats above, I am taking a new measured and mathematical approach in which the neutral palette compliments natural linen; the intentional shapes and less intentional color masses speak to decisively black lines. My work integrates geometric shape with intuitive explorations of the processes that occur when acrylic paint is subjected to a range of physical treatments. Juxtaposing the large with the small, line with color, square with circle, intuitive with cerebral, I strive to construct a new world of inventive and playful, but always purposeful, content."

Biography from Dassin Gallery:
Artist Statement:
"What fascinates me most is the palpable energy of paint itself and its limitless potential for nuance and texture.  My newest body of work, Painting Physics, explores the synergy between painting and some basic concepts in physics by painting first, and finding the scientific corollary afterwards. My objective is not to actually represent a scientific concept in physical terms, but to create a space where thought and representation meet."
