Following is the artist's obituary from the Times-Picayune of New Orleans, Louisiana dated 29 May 2011:

Marcella Jane Stevens Packard, an artist and long time resident of the New Orleans French Quarter, died Saturday, May 21st, age 86, at St. Joseph Carpenter House in Baton Rouge after a long illness. She was born December 3, 1924 in Newark, New York, daughter of Paul H. and Helen Bradley Stevens. Mrs. Packard was preceded in death by her husband Francis in 1987. She is survived by one son Lawrence Packard, his wife Janabelle, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Marcella and her husband settled in New Orleans after his retirement from the Air Force in 1964. She began selling her oil paintings on Jackson Square and in 1968, they opened The Packard Gallery on Dumaine Street, which remained open until 1992. She continued to paint until 1999.

She was a self taught, internationally recognized artist known for her paintings of steamboats, plantations and French Quarter scenes. Private services were held on Saturday, May 28th with interment at Lake Lawn Park in Metairie.

Burial: Lake Lawn Park Cemetery and Mausoleum in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana; North Terrace Mausoleum, Corridor of Life, crypt 7, tier A.
